San Gorgonio Wilderness: Dry Lake

October 19, 2005

First snow of the season came early to the San Gorgonio Wilderness, so I decided to head up there to find out how deep it was. Long story short, the snowline was below 7,500 ft, and only measured a few inches deep up above 9,000 ft at Dry Lake. Didn't run into a single person all day, and the only other tracks I saw besides my own, belonged to a coyote and a deer. Dry lake was nice, and the day turned out to be quite warm. The snow was melting rapidly by lunch time, and I doubt much of it remained a day or two later. In addition to the snow, the fall colors were really nice. Pleasant trip indeed!
