Suicide Rock

SUMMARY: This was the very first hike Nicole and I ever went on together. This is an area of Souther California I am quite fond of, so I had been to this area many times before. In fact, this is where Harry and I first camped out to test the Sierra Zip Stove before heading back down to the coast the following morning to body board the high surf from a nearby East Pacific hurricane. This time around we were only planning a day hike. Nicole definitely appreciated the scenery and we both really enjoyed the hike. Also, it was one of those rare clear days in the Southland where you can see all the way to the ocean from the mountains. Absolutely beautiful weather and wonderful company. Oh, and who can forget my levitating trick! What better place to learn how to levitate than high up on a cliff! A photo of me levitating can be found at the bottom of the page... but don't forget to check out the rest of the photos too!

Idyllwild is surrounded by huge cliffs and boulder covered mountains.

Left: Nicole finds a lofty ledge to nap on. Right: Tahquitz Rock teases climbers from all walks with its excellent granite walls perfect for climbing.

Nicole finds another ledge to relax on while soaking up some rays.

Tahquitz Rock, Tahquitz Peak, and the surrounding high country offers wonderful hiking opportunities.

Classic Tahquitz!

View towards Mt Palomar and the coast. The golden glint on the horizon is the ocean.

I finally got this whole levitating thing down! It's not so hard, really.
